Last week was a whirlwind of activity. I told John that if this whole process since March has been a marathon last week was certainly the sprint to the finish line! The packers showed up on Monday and started packing everything that I had marked storage. Basically I had to go through the whole house and mark with sticky notes what was going to go to storage. Here Lauren is supervising the packing process.
On Tuesday they took all the boxes and stuff marked storage and moved it out of the house to give them more room to wrap the overseas shipment stuff and finished packing up everything else that was to go to China.
On Wednesday and Thursday they literally wrapped up every piece of furniture and misc. item that would not fit in boxes with paper, corrugated cardboard, shrink wrap and tape. This is the funniest one of all - we have a HUGE bean bag (actually it's called a Lovesac) in our basement. They had to wrap it in paper and then shrink wrap it leaving it looking like the stone that chased after Indiana Jones.
Then on Friday they moved it all onto the 40 foot container. The container went straight from Dubuque to Chicago then got on a train bound for LA. It is scheduled to leave LA's port next week.
It is really wild to see all this stuff go into the container knowing that somehow it is going to get to us half-aworld away! At least, I have faith that it is going to show up! :) Here are a few other shots from the move week.

It was really amazing how attached one can get to a house over the course of 7 years. It was certainly a little sad to leave this home that first saw our babies come home from China. There are a lot of memories of first steps, first words, first big girl beds, first swinging on the swingset without mom's help, first lost tooth, etc. I guess that is the beauty of memories though - no matter where we live the memories still go with us.

We see those containers on trains all the time and I sometimes wonder what is inside them, yet it never would've occured to me that someone's entire household goods might be inside one - on it's way to China! Nuts!! Glad you guys made it there safely!! Thanks for sending the updates - I love to hear how you're doing!
